Doosan's 'Lack of Foreigners'… The diagnosis of the national batter, "Good study..." "Time to Understand Korean Baseball"

New faces are showing signs of sluggishness. Doosan Bears' ambitious recruitment of three foreign players has started the season in the midst of ups and downs. The team invested a total of 2.8 million U.S. dollars exclusively for foreign players in the Stove League.스포츠토토

Jack Rogue and Jake Cave joined the team, led by Cole Irvin, an active starting pitcher in the U.S. Major League Baseball. This is the reason why everyone had high expectations on their decision to make up for their disappointment in the previous season. However, their report cards are close to the lowest point since the beginning of the season.

Irvin, who took the mound at the opening game held at the SSG Landersfield in Incheon on the 22nd, threw 92 pitches during five innings, allowing only seven hits, one walk, two strikeouts and four runs (four earned runs). He threw sinkers (46 pitches), fastballs (26), sliders (8 pitches), curves (7 pitches), changeups (3 pitches), and cutters (2 pitches), and among others, his fastballs reached a maximum speed of 153 kilometers per hour.

Rogue, who took over Barton the next day, also failed to reverse the trend significantly. He played in six innings (89 pitches), allowing seven hits, two walks, five strikeouts and four runs (four earned runs). He threw a wild pitch in the fifth inning. He threw sinker (53 pitches), changeup (14 pitches), slider (11 pitches), curveball (7 pitches), and cutter (4 pitches), and posted a maximum speed of 149 km/h.

His batting average displayed signs of rebound. Cave had no hits in eight times at bat during the opening two consecutive games. He struck out four and walked once. It was different at an away game at KT Wiz Park in Suwon on Saturday. He started as the fourth batter and right fielder, and displayed impressive performance of two hits, one RBI and one walk from three times at bat. Notably, he hit the ball to the opponent team's starting pitcher Ko Young-pyo at the top of the second inning, leaving a huge double directly on the fence on the left side.

Currently, Cave has a batting average of 0.182 (two hits in 11 at-bats) without a home run during three games. Among 11 foreign hitters, Esteban Floral (Korean currency, 0.077) is the only one who has a lower on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) than Cave (0.581).

"Foreign players are showing poor performance in the early stages, and the coach emphasizes waiting." Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop told reporters ahead of the match against KT on Tuesday, "[Cave] is okay. I think the player himself is the most stressed out. If he makes a missed hit, he will regain stability psychologically."

"Now that we are in the KBO League, we have different ways to mix exhibition games, regular league balls and attack. We have to endure and persevere ourselves. I believe we will overcome it," he said.

The same diagnosis was made for pitchers. "It must have been a good study because it was my first time in the game," he said. "The opposing team didn't show everything at the exhibition game, and I think they were attacked in that way. It must have been a time to improve our understanding of the Korean baseball and KBO league (through the previous game)."

"It may be helpful for us to experience this rather than performing too well in the early stages. We need to overcome this, as bad situations are continuing. We should not let ourselves down anymore. We will only think positively," Lee said.
